Trying to cope with the idea of cancer

Found a 3cm nodule upper lobe of left lung. Family Dr and radiologist say very suspicious wanted biopsy sent me to pulmonary Dr he said given the location of nodule biopsy would have to be done from outside. He wants to see the findings of scan then if positive remove nodule if malignant.

  1. Sorry to hear your doctors found a concerning nodule. Did you have a PET scan done yet? I had a needle biopsy (3 times), done from the outside. I only felt a little pressure. Hoping your nodule is benign but if not, hope it was caught early and can be surgically removed. Please feel free to update us and let us know you are doing. Wishing you the best, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Patient Leader

  2. I went thru same thing. 2 broncoscopies, watched for 3 years, then outside of nodule changed. Lobectomy, adenocarcinoma 1A seven years ago. On hind sight I should have had it removed when accidentally discovered when it was still benign. Mine turned out to be smaller than 3 cm.

    1. That is fantastic, thank you for sharing such encouraging news! Best, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Patient Leader

    2. This is so awesome! Keep at it. Best!

  3. Meet with dr next Thursday my wife and I agree we think the mass should go while small 2.4x2 cm only problem hard to get to and can only reach with surgery can’t biopsy. A real worry

    1. I understand your worry, but it is good that it was caught early enough where surgery is an option. Did your doctor explain the type of surgery you will be getting (wedge or segment resection, lobectomy) and if they think it can be done via VATS, which is the less invasive that my original full thoracotomy. Do not hesitate to reach out, we are here to support each other. Warmly, Alisa

  4. My wife and I meet with Dr next wed hopefully we will get answers too our questions . At this point we read on My Chart but don’t really understand what everything means , just more confusing . We just want to get on with next step. I know the longer it takes to get rid of this mass the better chance we have of curing. The last Ebus showed no lymph node involvement so that is good but time is our enemy . We have to keep pushing this thing on as prudently as possible. We will keep you updated with progress. Again thank you for your concern. Larry

    1. It can probably be removed by DaVinci robot like mine was. Have your pulmo refer you to the best surgeon for robotic thoracic surgery in your area. Your hospital stay will be brief and the pain manageable. I had a lobectomy and a wedge resect of right middle 7 years ago. I see my pulmo for other issues every 6 months and have a scan yearly. Because it was so small such as yours seems to be, w/o lymph involvement, I did not need any oncological treatment. The quicker its out the better you will feel! Blessings.
