Lung Cancer Awareness Month 2024: Scanxiety, Follow-up appointments, and more.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. We are using this month to raise awareness about lung cancer and foster conversations within our community about coping with this type of cancer.

When it comes to checking on the status of your cancer, how do you handle the follow-up appointments? Do you experience scanxiety or feelings of stress? How do you cope with these emotions?

Share with the community here.

  1. I am currently NED but have colon cancer in my lungs now. Scan time is brutal, the waiting for results is horrible. I however, am noncurable this time.

    1. The trade-off of one good news with news that is not the best. Scanxiety definitely seems to be a well-shared experience with many, as the waiting for the results and what comes with this is a lot to bare. I will say you take one day at a time just as you met NED ... you never know- either way, wishing you bright thoughts as you power through this. Best!

  2. Good luck Tracey

    1. I am 2 1/2 years into my cancer journey and currently in remission. Each scan causes worry and concern, which I control through breathing exercised, prayer and exercise. It is always in the back of my mind regarding the result. Just writing this has given me some anxiety! This group helps.

      1. I am so glad to hear our community helps you. You are welcome here at any time to share or just to vent. I am happy you have other outlets which help you as well. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. Jill (Team Member)

    2. I also agree that this group does help. I do not post all that much but enjoy reading the posts. I realize that I am not alone in my journey. I recently submitted an article in a small local newspaper concerning what I am thankful for and was thrilled that they published it. It was concerning my Cancer journey. With that, I am going to lay down - tired again since beginning Chemo!!

      1. I am so glad to hear our community helps you. I think it is amazing that you wrote an article about all the things you are thankful for, I am so glad they published it. I hope you can get some rest. Jill (Team Member)
