Upcoming Lung Association Lung Cancer Event Focuses on Mind, Body and Spirit

The American Lung Association is pleased to host its second ever virtual Lung Cancer Patient Meetup on May 11, 2021. This event will feature experts in the field speaking on a number of lung cancer topics including new developments in lung cancer and lung cancer nutrition. Participants will also have the opportunity to sign-up for breakout sessions. The breakout sessions for this event are:

  • Advances in KRAS-Positive Lung Cancer Treatments
  • Advances in RET-Positive Lung Cancer Treatments
  • Advances in MET-Positive Lung Cancer Treatments
  • Advances in HER2-Positive Lung Cancer Treatments
  • Lung Cancer and Other Lung Diseases
  • How to be an Informed Patient
  • Creative Stress Management for Caregivers

A virtual space to connect and share

The past year has been especially isolating for lung disease patients and so the Lung Association is offering a networking session and virtual connection opportunities for attendees. In between sessions, participants will be able to engage in brief guided mediation and chair yoga.

“The agenda for our Patient Meetup was developed with the target audience in mind. We took suggestions from past event participants and other constituents to craft a program that addresses the mind, body and spiritual needs of lung cancer patients and caregivers”, says Carly Ornstein, National Director of Lung Cancer Education at the American Lung Association.

The Lung Cancer Patient Meetup will be hosted on a virtual platform that offers a realistic conference experience, complete with exhibitors. Lung cancer patients and caregivers can learn about lung cancer treatment advances and engage in self-care from the comfort and safety of their own homes.

New features to explore

The Lung Cancer Patient Meetup will be kicked off by LUNG FORCE Hero, Mike Smith, sharing his story about living well with stage four EGFR-positive lung cancer. For the first time ever, participants will be able to connect with other event attendees, including Mike Smith, through a participant directory.

“We don’t want the learning and support to stop once the Lung Cancer Patient Meetup is over. Through our new directory, attendees can sign up to share their contact information and topics of interest with other attendees, which also helps combat the feelings of isolation that are so prevalent right now due to the pandemic”, Ornstein says. The link to sign up for the directory will be provided during the event.

Attendance information

Participants can sign up for the event on the conference website. The event will be recorded, and registrants will be able to access the recording shortly after the conclusion of the event. At the conclusion of the event, participants will be asked to complete a short evaluation which will inform the agenda for the Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Lung Cancer Patient Meetups. Do you have a topic you are hoping to learn more about? Ornstein says to let the Lung Association know.

“The needs of the lung cancer community are very important to us and we want patients and caregivers to dictate future programming. We hope people will join us for our May 11th event and share their feedback for our future events”, says Ornstein.

Join the Lung Association, lung cancer experts, and lung cancer patients and caregivers for this educational and meaningful event. The program begins at noon Eastern time on May 11th.
