I had surgery in January 2025 for type 1 cancer by laser. The doctor was very positive and advised me that after the surgery everything would be fine, but after the surgery the pain, irritation and numbness in the left breast, rib and stomach is day and night. Nothing relieves me. Has anyone been through this experience? Do you know something that can give me relief?

I'm sorry to hear that things have not improved much. It is only a few months, so I join you in hoping that things will improve soon. I did have my gall bladder out more than 30 years ago, and I still have numbness under the incision. So I wouldn't worry too much about the numbness, unless it might increase or the area affected spreads.
Will you be going for a checkup soon? I'm hoping things are all positive again, and that helps restore some of your energy, and that the pain improves. Please do keep in touch and let us know how you are. - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

Hi, I had robotic assisted lung surgery for Stage 1a NSCLC on 9/19/24. I had a right lung lobectomy. As of this date 5/1/25, I am still experiencing intense rib pain and numbness on a daily basis. It is worse at night when trying to go to sleep. I have tried nerve blockers through pain management. Unfortunately, that relief only lasted hours after the procedure. I went through that twice and have decided the short period of relief wasn't worth a $300 copay, and Medicare requires 3 months between nerve blockers. At this point the most relief I get is when I take three 650 mg of Tylenol a couple of times a day. I have also received some relief with using Salon Pas big patches to cover the whole rib area that is hurting. My surgeon and oncologist said this could last up to a year or longer! Good luck. Maybe one of the suggestions might help you.

I also had same. After chemo in Jan of 24 by May I started to hurt in my back along my surgical scar around up to my chest bone. It got so bad I couldn't lay down or hardley breathe. It was plural effusion. But pain meds are what they gave me. Fentanyl patches and oxycodones. I started new pill called Afatinib. And my Dr says I'm in remission. Still in much pain, but that's where I'm at.
