New Lifestyle Changes With Lung Cancer
Life throws multiple situations all at once, and some may be more controllable than others. It’s fair to say adjusting to the good and bad is a process. It’s also fair to say hoping to see the sun over a rainy day is a needed goal.
Counting on trust
I always say I can only imagine my mom processing the news of lung cancer and going through the steps alone. We were there for her emotionally and physically, but there were those moments when she was home, at the doctor’s office, grocery shopping, or wherever and alone in her thoughts.
Sometimes as much as we’d like, we can’t rid ourselves of those daunting thoughts. Having trust when you’re in an uncompromising dilemma is an act of faith. It is not easy allowing your guard down when relying on care, an ear, or a shoulder to vent.
The belief that all happy things in life instantly vanish is a myth. Life is what you make it.
Adjustments lay in the corner of the best and most logical ways to go about modifying this new life with cancer. It’s important to allow yourself grace and time to adjust. It may not be easy at first, but in time, it will be doable.
Step 1:
Open up the dialogue with your doctor on what notable changes will be necessary when managing your condition. The next course of action is to make your household a safe place for comfort.
Step 2:
Consider what your social system should look like. If you have a big tribe that is open to partnering and supporting you with their love, awesome! You may need to direct those who are accommodating to what you need (ex., help with arranging appointments, travel partner, etc.), It may be as simple as just hearing you out on a rough day.
Holistic partners
There’s no secret sauce in making this situation perfect; it may take a lot of thought and many conversations to allow this new lifestyle. A holistic partner is not a who but a what. Holistic partners can include a new take on diet, mindfulness, and exercise.
Nutrition
Using foods to make you feel better, and not only better but healthier foods. If you’re unsure about figuring this out along with your medications, ask your doctor for leads to help adjust.
Mindfulness
Simply relooking at how you handle this new stress that may exceed the stressors on an already compromising body is a start. Incorporating practices that allow for deep breathing techniques may help.
Exercise
A new lifestyle change may now involve some light form of exercise to manage and improve lung capacity, it all depends on what your doctor thinks.
A new lifestyle in tiny steps can be doable.
The time to fight is now, with integrity, grace, hope, and a smile….when you feel like it.
