Side Effects of Lung Cancer or Treatment

What side effects have you or a loved one experienced from lung cancer or treatment? Have any surprised you?

  1. I've never suffered from lung cancer. For brain tumour, I suffered a lot in two aspects: 1) my right side is seviously weaked. Though exercise, I can walk, but I cannot use my right hand, 2) my language center, containing the langauge production center, is affteted badly. Luckly, my language comprehensive centre is intact. It's utter important to exercise, both physically and verbally, so that I can revover, and from what I experienced, it's possible to recover, at to some extent.

    1. I suffer from nerve pain from VATS surgery 2 years ago. I am looking for answers to ease the pain other than Lyrica which I have just begun to take. Would an exercise bike help? Due to Covid I can't use the equipment in my gym.

      1. I suffered from neuropathic pain for months after my lobectomy. I hated the side effects from Lyrica, tried Tramadol, worked but rotted my teeth. Research Active Release Theropy done by a Chriopractor, pain gone after ten visits! Much more natural approach. Also research how to stimulate your nerves around injury site. This can be done by partner or self! Good luck!

      2. @Westjet, thank you for sharing what worked for you. As we are all different, I respectfully suggest that others check with their doctors before changing approaches, even natural. Always best to let your medical team know. I'm glad you found our community, Westjet! All the best, Alisa, LungCancer.net Team

    2. Hi poogan1. Has your doctor had anything to say about this continuing pain? This article discusses chronic pain syndromes following lung cancer surgery: https://www.verywellhealth.com/what-is-postpneumonectomy-syndrome-2249353. It describes various forms (including nerve issues) and potential treatments. Of course, only a doctor can provide the proper diagnostics to determine exactly what is going on in your case and the best course of action. Hoping you get some relief soon. Best, Richard (LungCancer.net Team)

      1. I had upper stomach pain and absolutely nothing would help. I finally decided to take a gummy hoping I could at least sleep. With God as my witness I could feel the pain disappear as it was going down. It's now my go to cure for that horrid stomach pain.

      2. Glad you found something that worked for you. I suggest always checking with your doctor to make sure it won't interfere with any treatment, it is not one size fits all (and, unfortunately, not legal in all states ... yet). Thanks for sharing! Best, Alisa, LungCancer.net Team

    3. Hi,
In answer to your question I have been besieged with plenty of side effects from Small Cell Lung Cancer, surgery and treatments, plus the proteins that Cancer gives off is quite debilitating.
I am in remission going in 4 1/2 years. I’ve been chasing cures, treatments and medications, including Acupuncture to elevate my side effects, to no avail. I’m a fighter and I never give up and neither should you! None of this are pleasant, but we have to fight a good fight!

      1. Hi , I'm sorry to hear of your side effects, I know they can be so challenging, but it is great to hear you are in remission and have such a fighting spirit! Thank you for taking the time to share with us. Wishing you all the best, Alisa, LungCancer.net Team
