had lung cancer

My husband was diagnosed with stage 1 lung cancer. This was a year after having three sections of a mass and a section of lung removed from his left lung. He had a squamous cell carcinoma removed from the crown of his head and one just to the left of his left eye several years ago..He went through five treatments of targeted radiation and they said there was nothing left but a scar. I am curious as to whether it could have gone somewhere else because he has some severe soreness and bruising with a lump deep inside the fleshy part of his hip. I can't seem to find anyone who will tell me if this is a symptom of bone cancer. I ask because I lost a friend to bone cancer and she had this bruising. I am also curious as to if this came from the squamous cell carcinoma on his head. They had to go very deep to cut that out.Any input will be appreciated.

  1. I am sorry you cannot get the information you need from your doctors. I would get a second opinion. Lung cancer can spread to the bones, but it is still considered lung cancer, not bone cancer. I would definitely get it checked out. Please update us if you wish, we are here to share. All the best, Alisa, LungCancer.net Team

    1. Hi . Sorry to hear your husband is having these hip issues and your concern is certainly understandable. As mentioned, getting a second opinion and finding some answers for you and your husband is paramount. I do want to share with you this article on bone metastasis from squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck which found that it is very rare: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11064394/. In fact, they found that "Only approximately 1% of these patients had clinically demonstrable bone metastases." Of course, the authors also note that it is a possibility and as such should be investigated and if there is a different cause, hopefully, it will be discovered as well. Wishing you and your husband the best and please feel free, if you like, to keep us posted on how things are going. Richard (LungCancer.net Team)
