Feeling lost and scared

Nov 29th 2023 I went to doc for a swallow lymph node I got when I was sick off and on for 3 months. She tells me she's concerned the next day I'm at head and neck surgery Dr whi does an ultrasound and tells me I have cancer I'm a 48 year old woman living in Portland oregon. Pet scan showed mass in my right upper lung 2.1 cm and lymph nodes in middle of right lung all lit up as well on to Mir which was good nothing there. 30 days later Jan 2 nd 2024 I was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma nsclc. I'm taking it day by day I know it is spread to my lymph node system from lung to neck by collarbone still don't know the stage or treatment plan yet .feels like time is moving so slow

  1. Hi I am so glad you reached out. I can definitely understand why you would be overwhelmed and afraid. This is a lot to take in. Going in for a check up and then heading down a road of multiple doctors and testing, is an emotional roller coaster. I am glad to hear you are taking it day by day. I can't imagine how difficult this is for you and how time must feel like it is not moving. I am happy you found our community. We are here to share, vent and provide unconditional support. Please reach out whenever you want. When is your next doctor appointment? Sending lots of hugs. Jill, lungcancer.net team

    1. I'm sorry to hear you were diagnosed, but glad you found our community. I was originally diagnosed 23 years ago, in my early 40'sc there have been so many advances since then. Did your doctor tell you what your next steps will be, such as a biopsy? Taking it a step at a time and not get ahead of oneself is beneficial, glad you are taking it day by day. As Jill said, we are here to share and support each other, please reach out any time. Thinking of you and will be looking for updates. Warmly, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Patient Leader

      1. I'm stage 3 b getting ready to start my treatment journey

        1. I can imagine how anxious this time may be for you. How are you doing in general? Hoping all goes well with the treatment. Wishing you the very best!

        2. I was also diagnosed at stage 3b - 23 years ago, but I remember it like yesterday. What treatment protocol will you be starting? I had a lobectomy with follow up chemo treatments, there wasn't much available at the time, there have been so many advances since then. This community is very supportive and we are here to journey with you. Warmly, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Patient Leader

      2. I concur as everyone else. I'm glad you found this network and hope the stories and experiences help with some answers in knowing you are not alone. Wishing you the very best!
