COPD and Lung Cancer

Hi everyone, I am new here. Went to the ER for SOB, did a CT scan. They found a mass on my right lung. Did a lung biopsy. Camera down my throat, sutures on my throat. Couple of days later a lump formed above the sutures. Back to the ER. Emergency surgery, cleaned out lump, got a drain put in. Hosp for 3 days. Drain taken out, changing bandages when fluid is full, Was told due to my COPD, no surgery, I guess just chemo. Appt with my Oncologist tomorrow. Awaiting for a MRI Brain appt to be set up. Need approval due to I have a pacemaker. Trying to wrap my head around this whole situation. Terrified and trying to be positive. Hoping for the best outcome.

  1. Hi, I'm sorry you were just diagnosed, but glad you found our community. I was diagnosed 23 years ago and remember like it was yesterday how overwhelming and scary it was to hear. I had surgery and chemotherapy (Stage 3b) and that cancer hasn't come back. I can understand COPD may exclude you from surgery but thankfully there have been many recent advancements in systemic therapy. Wishing you all the best with your upcoming appointments and tests! We also have another site you may find useful: COPD.net. Please know that we are here for you, feel free to reach out anytime and update us. Warmly, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Patient Leader
