Patients Gathering in Raleigh for LiveLung Small Cell Lung Cancer Summit

The Dusty Joy Foundation, or LiveLung, is hosting the first ever inaugural Small Cell Lung Cancer Summit from April 18-19, 2023. It will take place at Embassy Suites Raleigh-Durham Airport, 8001 Arco Corporate Drive, Raleigh, North Carolina.

I am so happy to be a part of bringing the Small Cell Lung Cancer patient community together this spring for an in-person gathering. This is the first-ever summit exclusively for Small Cell Lung Cancer patients and caregivers.

Small Cell Lung Cancer Summit goals

One of the goals of the LiveLung Small Cell Lung Cancer Summit is to build a strong SCLC patient community and amplify the patient and caregiver voice. Additionally, this is an educational opportunity for Small Cell patients and caregivers to learn about scientific research, therapeutic developments, and build hope.

Our draft agenda:

Day One

Introductions and industry partner presentations. This day will also feature expert speakers, a patient panel discussion, and a networking reception.

Day Two

Day two will start with a Patient/Caregiver Focus Group. Then, several speakers will share how to help lung cancer patients and their caregivers live their best life. This will be followed by a time of sharing amongst patients and caregivers.

Merging patient and caregiver communities with industry partners

We are delighted to bring Small Cell Lung Cancer patients/caregivers together with the research and industry partner community working on their behalf, who are working to advance the science and help improve outcomes for SCLC patients.

LiveLung: Educational Small Cell Virtual Meetings

LiveLung offers a network of educational patient groups that bring patients, survivors, and caregivers together with expert speakers. Our educational and inspirational meetings provide meaningful benefits to attendees.

The story of LiveLung

It was just last year when LiveLung started its Small Cell Lung Cancer Program. For a long time, the Small Cell Lung Cancer community has been underserved. We recognized this need and have been blown away by the response from the Small Cell community and our supporters.

The SCLC group is facilitated by longtime SCLC survivor and advocate Montessa Lee. Some of our speakers have included top-notch experts from MD Anderson, Atrium Health, Henry Ford Hospital, and others. To name a few:

  • Dr. Arjun Sahgal spoke about prophylactic brain radiation.
  • Kaley Marston discussed speech & cognition challenges and tips for overcoming chemo brain.
  • Dr. Susan LeGrand shared how palliative care can help patients and caregivers in their daily lives as they struggle with the potential side effects of treatment.
  • Dr. Shireesh Gadgeel discussed clinical trials for SCLC patients, and Dr. Simon Heeke shared encouraging SCLC research.
  • Join us today - receive the support and SCLC knowledge you deserve!

Our meetings provide an inviting, nonjudgmental, encouraging environment where everyone feels welcome - regardless of the cause of their lung cancer, prognosis, or treatment. We also welcome community partners to our meetings. This includes nurse navigators and collaborating organizations. We aim to help connect survivors with experts and resources within the SCLC community.

Our organization is committed to building up the Small Cell Lung Cancer community. This Summit is the first of what we hope will be an annual event. Please join us and attend our summit by clicking this link!

We're looking forward to seeing you in April!
