Another Year in the Books

As I sit down to reflect on this holiday season, it strikes me that this marks my 10th holiday season since my lung cancer diagnosis. A decade of celebrations, each one accompanied by a lingering question: "Is this my last one to celebrate?"

This is a thought that has become woven into the fabric of my holiday experience. It is a reminder of the fragility of life and the resilience of the human spirit.

The importance of family

This year, like every other, I found myself surrounded by the warmth of family and the joy of shared traditions. My husband and I have created a beautiful tapestry of celebrations, merging the festivities with both our families. It's a time of togetherness, laughter, and creating memories that transcend the challenges life throws our way.

This holiday season brought a unique set of circumstances. Sickness visited our home, and we had to adapt our plans, missing out on a family party we had eagerly anticipated.

However, despite unexpected challenges, we discovered the silver lining—precious moments of quiet and connection. My husband and I found solace in each other's company, taking the opportunity to relax, unwind, and savor the season's simple pleasures.

Creating your own peace

On Christmas Eve, with a backdrop of twinkling lights and the soft crackle of the fireplace (our own TV version!), we decided to forge our own traditions. We traded the hustle and bustle for a quiet evening of hot tea and the nostalgic melodies of Christmas records.

In those tranquil moments, we found joy in simplicity and the gift of each other's presence.

A decade of gratitude

As I reflect on 2023, I am grateful for the good health that graced my journey. The year brought stability, and I can't help but hope that this positive trend will continue into 2024.

Each day is a gift, and I am determined to embrace the possibilities, relishing in the beauty of the ordinary and finding strength in the extraordinary.

To those who have walked this journey with me, supporting and uplifting me through the highs and lows, I extend my deepest gratitude. Your love and encouragement have been a source of immeasurable strength.

On April 11, 2024, I will officially hit my ten-year cancer anniversary, and for that, I am grateful. Many moments lived within those ten years. I appreciate everyone who has said nice words to me and encouraged me along this journey.

Navigating challenges and finding strength

Resilience becomes our ally in the face of challenges, a companion that whispers words of encouragement during times of uncertainty. The unwavering spirit that carries us through another holiday season becomes a testament to our ability to persevere, adapt, and discover the strength within ourselves that we might not have known existed.

So, here's to the indomitable spirit that resides within each of us—a spirit that transforms challenges into opportunities, sorrows into lessons, and ordinary moments into extraordinary memories. As we step into the uncharted territory of the new year, may this spirit be our guiding force, propelling us toward growth, happiness, and the fullness of life's beautiful tapestry.

Let us all have a happy New Year!
