Radiation Therapy

My Wife was diagnosed with stage 2 NSCLC on both lungs. She just had a Lobectomy on the left lung. Because underlying Heart issues surgery on her right lung is not recommended. Leaning towards radiation therapy. Any input Pro and Cons the following therapies: SBRT, IMRT and Proton Beam Therapy would be deeply appreciated.!!!

  1. Hi I'm sorry your wife was diagnosed with lung cancer, but it seems like it was caught somewhat early, so that is encouraging. I had two lung surgeries and still have a couple of concerning nodules in my right lung and a third surgery doesn't look likely so I am also looking into radiation treatments. I'm exploring the three modalities you mentioned. My nodule is near my breathing tube, so I am leaning towards proton therapy if I am a candidate as it is supposed to be gentler onthe surrounding areas. I hope others who had radiation treatments join in on this discussion with their experiences. In the meantime, I'm attaching a couple of links below that I hope helps. Please feel free to follow up with us, we are here for you both, to share and support one another. Warmly, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Patient Leader

      2. Hello my mother was diagnosed but didn't go through a lobectomy but the treatment did consist of a few rounds of radiation as well. She experienced a lot of fatigue and limited appetite, but that may also be the experience for a few. Here is a piece written a few years back providing an in-depth breakdown that you may find helpful as well. Wishing all goes well for your wife. Please stay in touch. Wishing you the very best!
