PS- mom would love some pals who are extended stage SCLC too. She is not in the zone of beautiful surrender that so many others have come to here. It is so awe-inspiring to her and to her children all the same. She is in the warrior stance right now- just started a new round of chemo-immunotherapy after diagnosis with extremely limited stage sclc and surgery in December 202 and chemo (no radiation on chest or PBI) beginning In January 2021. She has had trouble finding stories of folks who started out LS and have had a recurrence. She has some great things going in her favor- staying strong and healthy through first round of chemo, caught super early the first time, and handling the immunotherapy-chemo combo well again (though she misses her hair). My brother lives in Jersey near Sloan-Kettering and we have family down in Houston who survived with MD Anderson’s help.
Mom is 71, good lungs and generally feeling healthy despite the cancer. Annoyingly independent and unwilling to put up with bossy children, curses like a sailor(when at sea or otherwise appropriate settings), has beat long odds before, but is willing to accept things as they come one day at a time, in love with her grandson, and loves her son and his attention, stubbornly irritated with her daughter for her smothering, and her little sister for her comfort.
Mother prays to the angels- always has felt heard before and has known miracles too!
Also- she has the best freaking wig! She misses her hair, but nobody else does because it looks great! Her smile hasn’t changed and she plans on keeping it for a bit!
