Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for Carcinoid Tumor

After speaking with a few doctors at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, I've been recommended to have photodynamic therapy for my carcinoid tumor. It is in the bronchus intermedius, and this treatment would replace surgery (specifically, a bilobectomy, a removal of the middle and lower lobes in my case). Has anyone had PDT? If so, what should I keep in mind? Also, how were you able to avoid the sun and bright lights? Thank you in advance!

  1. I never had PDT, but wanted to wish you the very best with your treatment. Hopefully some members with experience will join in the discussion with their experience. Please feel free to follow up with us, we are here to share and support each other. Warmly, Alisa, LungCancer.net Team

    1. Hi . I can't personally speak to photodynamic therapy, but I want to share with you this research article on its effectiveness, noting that "PDT is still currently underutilized to treat lung cancer and other tumors:" https://jcancer.org/v12p1154.htm. While the need for more research is acknowledged, existing research is presented and the potential discussed. Wishing you the best. Richard (LungCancer.net Team)
