Looking for other options for mom

Hi, I'm Nelly, my mom Karolyn has been diagnosed with lung cancer that was spread from breast cancer. We are looking for other options since they say there isn't a cure. Her dr doesnt recommend
chemo. Has anyone done proton therapy? I have changed her diet, am hoping for a miracle. Any info is greatly appreciated.

  1. Hi Nelly, I'm sorry to hear your Mom's cancer spread. To make sure I understand correctly - your Mom has breast cancer that spread to her lungs, she doesn't have lung cancer, correct? I have read many good studies regarding proton therapy and breast cancer. I'm looking into proton myself for some lung nodules. In case you don't know of our other site, I am posting the link below, you and your Mom might find it helpful. Wishing you all the best, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Patient Leader

    1. Hi . I just wanted to follow up on Alisa's comment. When a cancer metastasizes and moves to a different organ it maintains the characteristics of the original cancer, so the treatments for it will still need to focus on that type of cancer. I can note to you that as this article states "Proton therapy can treat solid tumors, but it cannot treat cancer cells that have metastasized to different parts of the body:" https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/325756. I did some looking over at our sister-site which Alisa provided and found that we do have a number of articles discussing breast cancer that has metastasized to the lungs. Really hoping that you find an effective treatment for your mother's cancer. Wishing you both the best. Richard (LungCancer.net Team)

      1. I echo the sentiments of everyone else, along with the links provided prior on proton therapy; perhaps you can pose this question on our facebook for a wider reach on similar experiences with this process. Wishing the best for your mother on this journey.
