Feedback on switching from immunotherapy to chemotherapy?

I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer June 2019. Can I get some feedback on switching from immunotherapy to chemotherapy?

Had cancer cells in pleural fluid. Biopsies with pleurodesis in September and started immunotherapy. PET Scan on January 2, 2020. Results yesterday with oncologist. Says pleural lining cancer now and Keytruda not working for PDL1. To start chemotherapy next week with 5 drugs. Breathing is different, pain is more frequent but not excruciating. I am scared to death. Has there been success for any of you when treatment changed?

  1. I was in trial of immunotherapy for 6 months. PET showed much progression. Now on chemo which has more side effects. Will follow up after scans in another week. Having to change plans is definitely scary but I don’t have a choice. Trying to stay positive and hope for the best. Good luck to you

    1. Hi , I did not have a treatment switch, but maybe my situation can help ease your mind a bit. I was diagnosed almost 20 years ago, before there was targeted therapy or immunotherapy. The only available treatment was chemo. I had surgery and followed up with carboplatin and taxol for the remaining nodules. I have been stable since, my nodules have only had minimal changes over the years and I haven't needed any more treatment yet. Chemo still has it's place. Please feel free to follow up with us, we are here to support each other. Wishing you all the best! Kindly, Alisa, LungCancer.net Team
