First chemo session

My husband was just diagnosed with lung cancer..He has a tumour in his left lung which is blocking the airway and giving him issues with breathing...He crashed two weeks after his bronchoscopy and we had to go for our first chemo session..It was a very intense experience..He is back home after two days after chemo and he is needing an oxygen concentrator to breathe as his oxygen saturation drops without it..He is also extremely weak and has swollen feet..Is this something normal as I am getting very worried?

  1. I am so sorry to hear your husband was diagnosed and is having such challenges. We cannot give anything that may be construed as medical advice, but I would call his medical care team and report this as soon as possible. He may have fluid buildup that needs to be drained and you also want to rule out any blood clots. Hopefully this challenge can be easily taken care of. Please know we are here for you both, will be looking for an update! Warmly, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Health Leader

    1. Difficulty breathing, low oxygen saturation, weakness, and swollen feet can be common side effects after chemotherapy for lung cancer. These symptoms should be reported to your healthcare team for personalized guidance and adjustments to the treatment plan. Follow your doctor's recommendations for oxygen therapy and medication. Open communication with the medical team is crucial for the best care.

      1. Yes, totally agree full communication and transparency are a must! Thank you for sharing. Best!

      1. Hello all Thank you so much for your concern and advice. I did take him in emergency and he is now admitted in Intensive Care Unit. There was a massive pleural effusion in his lung and also a pericardial effusion well before the chemo and this should have been stabilised before the chemo. He is currently being taken care of. The fluid is being tapped. It has been a very heavy experience.

        1. I'm sorry your husband (and you) are going through this, but glad he is admitted and being taken care of. I can only imagine the intensity of the situation. Please know we are here for you both, feel free to update us or reach out anytime, we are in this together! Warmly, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Health Leader

        2. Thank you for sharing and letting us know the update; Wishing him and you the very best through this process.
