What clothes do you wear when taking drug Alectinib?

I'm to go on this drug to help with my lung/brain cancer. Major side affect is sun burn and I have been told I must wear long sleeve shirts all year. Is this true? What about hands? Do I have to wear a hat? Do I have to wear long sleeve shirt just riding in car? Know maybe dumb questions but need help. Thanks!

  1. Hi Marymac4441,

Thanks for your question! In addition to any comments that the community may share with personal experiences, this article on Alectinib may help ( https://lungcancer.net/medications/alecensa-reviews-how-well-work-side-effects ). It is suggested that patients avoid unnecessary or prolonged exposure to sunlight, as it may make the skin more sensitive to sunlight, so wearing long sleeves when possible is a good idea! Your doctor may have other suggestions as well; it is always important to share concerns with your care team!

Additionally, it can be helpful while outside to seek out shade, either natural or under awnings, umbrellas, or and a hat can help, especially for the scalp.

I hope this helps! These are not dumb questions at all and I am sure many others have the same! Thinking of you.

    Best,
    Margot, (LungCancer.net Team)

    1. Hi Marymac4441
I got a very bad sun rash right before Memorial Day. I went online to Amazon and ordered Sun Protective clothing from Coolibar. Got a hat, long sleeve hoodie, driving gloves(my hands got fried with the rash just from the sun coming in the car window, it hurt very bad!)That keeps my pretty well covered. I also have to wear tennis shoes and not sandles if its really sunny. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your answer. It helps for I wondered about the hands. Did you get the gloves through Amazon? Do you wear the gloves or would you advise me to when just walking outside to get mail(5minutes or less outside)? I'm gonna guess you wear long sleeve shirts whenever you go outside even in car??? Socks always? All information is appreciated!

    2. Hi Marymac4441 I only wore the driving gloves and other sun protective clothing during the summer. Now that its fall I don't. Yes I got the gloves from Amazon, or the Coolibar website.

      1. Thanks. What part of country do you live in. I'm trying to determine what temperature I can stop wearing extra clothes.

    3. Hi Marymac4441
