Carcinoid

I had 2 lung nodules that have been watched for 10 years. They were growing slowly. A pet scan came back that the nodules were suspicious for malignancy. I had a robot assisted lobectomy. Right middle lobe was removed a wedge resection was also done. I spent 3 nights in the hospital with a chest tube. Pathology confirmed that is was a carcinoid endocrine neurogenic tumor stage one. No further treatment. It has been a month. I am doing well. Breathing and sob is getting better. Anyone else have this?

  1. I personally have not had this and hopefully someone who is familiar will chime in. I do have to say I am glad it was watched closely over the years and was caught at stage one. I am glad your breathing and shortness of breath is improving. Warmly, Sandy(lungcancer.net moderator)

    1. Your watch and wait was a long process; I'm so glad your team was on top of things despite the long span of watching these nodules. Hoping your health continues to improve...cancer free.
      Wishing you the very best!

      1. Hi Maryjane, I have nodules being watched in my right lung for over 15 years (my original diagnosis was 23 years ago) that are very slow growing and we will continue to watch them. While being screened for those nodules, a new nodule showed up in 2021 that one doctor thought was going to be a carcinoid NET lung cancer so I started researching. It turned out to be adenocarcinoma, but while researching I found two decent facebook support groups specifically for carcinoid tumors. If you are interested, check out the Facebook groups "Carcinoid - Lung - Typical" and/or the group "Carcinoid/NET Cancer Awareness". Please feel free to reach out anytime, we are here to support each other. Kindly, Alisa, Lung Cancer Team Patient Leader
