With this wicked coronavirus has anybody decided to take a hiatus from immunotherapy or chemotherapy?

I have NSCLC and have been so worried and stressed for two weeks wondering if I should go to my next Keytruda visit. Decided I won't be going. I have too many strikes against me. Been on it for about a year and it's working so from what I've read, it does stay in your system for quite a while.

  1. Hi korusgirl. It is certainly understandable to be concerned about the COVID-19 virus in relation to the impact of chemotherapy on the immune system. Everyone's overall situation is unique (from personal health to physical location and a myriad of other factors), so the decision has to be a personal one. I want to share with you this article on basics for the immune-compromised: https://lungcancer.net/news/coronavirus-immunocompromised. Your doctor, knowing your individual case, should be able to provide guidance. Wishing you the best and please know that this community is here for you. Richard (LungCancer.net Team)

    1. I discussed my options with my oncologist. KMC is one of the best hospitals in the Dayton, OH area, and I am 100% confident my medical team is diligent in keeping me safe. I am continuing my treatment. With being at home 100% of the time now, it gives me an opportunity to get out of the house. I see my fellow chemo buddies from a distance. We have private rooms, so we can wave through the window. The articles provided above by Richard are awesome! Good luck! I hope you are able to return to your treatments soon.

      1. Hi Ronda. Good to see you posting. I too have utmost confidence that my hospital in Chicago is keeping me safe
I hate not being able to see my family/grandsons except from a distance or FaceTime
But there is a flip side to this mess— very low traffic to get to hospital and un crowded waiting rooms!
        Hope everyone is doing ok

        1. That's great you have confidence in your hospital. I think many people are at a standstill with chaos at many that are lacking PPE items. Take care and be safe!
