The Start of My Journey
Hello, my name is Mj. On Wednesday, May 31, I noticed that when I took a deep breath, I had a stabbing feeling in my left chest that travelled to my back. I felt this pain only with taking deep breaths.
A doctors appointment that turns into a hospital stay
I had a doctors appointment on Friday, so I just rode it out. Friday came, I went do the doctors and he wanted to call the ambulance and take me to the hospital. I said no, I would go home and have a family member take me. My daughter Shelli took me to the hospital where I ended up being admitted and staying for 9 days. In that time, doctors ran a host tests such screening my heart, lungs, for cancer, and also my kidneys.
Finding out I have lung cancer
After the series of tests, I found out it that it was lung cancer. My one lymph node on the left side. They took a biopsy and completed a brain scan. After this, I found out that I have Small Cell Lung cancer that has spread to two spots on my brain. I start chemo and radiation three times a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, followed by a 3 week break - so I follow a 3 week on 3 week off schedule. I have an upcoming Pet scan set on July 11th. But the cancer doctor says we can't wait that long since the cancer as spread to my brain already, so he's trying very hard to get the pet scan completed asap.
