Diagnosis of Stage 4 Metastatic Lung Adenocarcinoma.

Hi Everyone,
Just making this post to know about the experience of people with similar diagnosis or relatives/loved one's of someone with a similar diagnosis and what to expect.

My father has been recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Adenocarcinoma. He is a non-smoker. At this point the cancer is present extensively in both lungs and has also spread to Lymph nodes, the cervical bones as well as the spine. The cancer is also present in the collar bone and hip bone.
There is no brain metastasis as of now.

He has tested negetive for EGFR,Ros1,ALK mutations, eliminating the possibility of targeted therapy. On our next visit to the doctor I am going to request PDL-1 and testing for other mutations as well to see if something comes positive and we can explore more treatment options.

Currently the doctors have him on palliative chemotherapy, Pemetrexed+cisplatin.

According to the five opinions that we have taken from well-known oncologist in Delhi, he has a poor prognosis considering the fact that all the mutations have came back negetive.

  1. I am so sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis. Due to the fact that he has no targetable mutations, has any of the doctors mentioned immunotherapy? I'm surprised his PDL-1 wasn't tested when he had his biomarker testing. Was it a tissue sample used or a liquid biopsy? I know the medical system is different in Delhi, but is it possible to get a second opinion from another cancer center? Please feel free to share more, we are here to support each other and are here for you and your father. Warmly, Alisa, LungCancer.net Team

    1. Just an update.
We saw another specialist and after looking at the scans, he has said that in his opinion even immunotherapy isn't an option because it will be really risky.
He advised that immunotherapy poses the risk of inflammation, and my father's lungs have almost nil space to accomodate that inflammation if it occurs.
According to him, the volume of cancer is huge. When he saw the scans he was literally in shock and out of words. Because my father's health us detoriating, he has said that we might just have a few months irrespective of chemo working or not because the cancer is so advanced

    2. Oh, I am so sorry to hear that, I know how hard it is. My mom was in a similar position before my diagnosis. Sending you a warm hug and know that we are here for you. ~ Alisa
